Diesel D2 is a distillate fuel derived from crude oil, commonly known as gas oil, and is the standard fuel for most diesel engines. It is less volatile and provides better fuel economy than Diesel #1, making it ideal for heavy-duty vehicles like trucks and trains. D2 can be blended with biodiesel and is used for a wide range of applications, including transportation, power generation, and marine uses.
Aviation kerosene, or jet fuel, is a petroleum-based fuel used to power turbine engines in aircraft like jets and turboprops. It is a highly refined and specialized fuel that must meet strict quality and safety requirements, including a low freezing point (like -47°C for Jet A-1) to prevent solidification at high altitudes, high energy density for efficient propulsion, and chemical stability for safe handling and storage. Common types include Jet A-1 and Jet A, with additives sometimes included for anti-static, anti-corrosion, or deicing properties.
EN590 is the European standard for automotive diesel fuel, requiring a minimum cetane number, specific viscosity and density, and a maximum sulfur content of 10 ppm. This standard ensures high quality, reduces vehicle emissions, and is used for both passenger and commercial vehicles. It also allows for up to 7% FAME biodiesel to be blended into the fuel.
Petroleum coke, or petcoke, is a carbon-rich solid material and a co-product of the oil refining process. It is primarily produced in coker units, where heavy residues from crude oil processing are broken down into shorter-chain hydrocarbons under high heat and pressure, leaving behind the solid petcoke residue.
JET A-1 is a kerosene-type aviation fuel used in most jet-powered aircraft globally, recognized by its high quality and adherence to international standards like ASTM D1655 and DEF STAN 91-91. It is distinguished by a flash point above \(38^{\circ }C\) and a freezing point of \(-47^{\circ }C\) or lower, ensuring it remains liquid at high altitudes. Additives are blended into the fuel to improve performance by preventing static buildup, controlling ignition, and inhibiting microbial growth and deposits.
Colonial Grade 54 (JP54) is a type of aviation kerosene, similar to Jet A, but with specific Russian standards. It is used to power gas-turbine aircraft engines and is distinguished by a flash point of approximately and a specific energy of about to MJ/kg, depending on the source.
ESPO (Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean) crude oil is a light, sweet grade of Russian crude with low sulfur content, high API gravity, and excellent combustion properties
Light Cycle Oil (LCO) is a middle distillate fuel produced in a refinery's Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) unit, which is primarily used as a feedstock for other products or as a fuel component. It has a high concentration of aromatics and sulfur, making it unsuitable for direct use as diesel without further processing like hydrotreating. Upgraded LCO can be used to produce high-quality diesel, gasoline, or valuable petrochemicals like benzene, toluene, and xylenes (BTX).
